Guava Varieties We Exports
1. L-49 (LUCKNOW-49)
The L-49 variety of Guava is a prolific bearer. It is greenish-yellow with milky white and sweet pulp. The shell of the L-49 is fairly thick and contains fairly soft seeds in the inner portion of the pulp. The number of seeds is less and this variety is popular in Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh. This variety yields about 25t/ha.
2. ALLAHABAD SAFEDA
The Allahabad Safeda is one of the most popular varieties of Guava grown in Uttar Pradesh. It is used for table purposes. The fruits of this variety are generally medium in size and round in shape with a few seeds. The fruit is white-fleshed with good keeping quality.
3. BANARASI
The Banarasi variety of Guavas generally attains a height of 4.0 to 5.5 m with a broad crown. The fruits of this variety are generally round in shape and light yellow in colour. This variety is mainly cultivated for table purposes.
4. CHITTIDAR
The Chittidar variety is said to be similar to the Safeda variety of guavas. The only difference between the two is that the Chittidar variety has many pinkish-red dots of the size of a pinhead on the surface of the fruit.
5. HARIJHA
The Harijha variety of Guavas usually attains a height of about 3.5 to 4.5m. This plant is also said to be sparsely branched. The fruits of this variety are round in shape and greenish-yellow in colour with a sweet taste.
6. RED FLESHED
The Red Fleshed variety of guavas tree generally attains the height of 3-5m. The branches of this tree are spread with roundish oval fruits. The fruits have a yellowish skin with pink colour flesh inside.
7. ARKA MRIDULA
The Arka Mridula is a selection of guavas from open-pollinated seedlings of Allahabad Safeda. The plants of this variety are semi-tall in nature and spreading. The fruits of this variety are round in shape and have the skin is smooth and yellow in colour. The flesh inside is white in colour.
