Pineapple Varieties We Exports
1. GIANT KEW
The Giant Kew variety of Pineapple has a big fruit in size. The colour of this variety of Pineapple varies from a deep yellow to coppery yellow and the eyes of the fruit are broad and flat. The flesh is said to vary from a pale yellow to yellow in colour.
2. QUEEN
The Queen variety of pineapple is spiny and golden yellow in colour. It is known for its pleasant aroma and flavour. The sweetness and the unique aroma of the Queen pineapple differentiate it from pineapples of other states of the Northeast region. This variety received a Geographical Indication tag in 2015.
3. MAURITIUS
The Mauritius variety is also known as Vazhakulam Kannara variety of pineapples. The fruit weighs anywhere from 1.3 to 1.6 kg. The Mauritius variety is generally conical in shape and golden in colour with an amazing aroma and delicious in taste. The juice of the Mauritius variety is sweeter and has a lower acidity of 0.5 to 0.7%.
4. CHARLOTTE ROTHSCHILD
Charlotte Rothschild is another variety of Pineapples that are exported from India. This pineapple variety has characteristics similar to Kew and Queen. It also tastes similar to the Kew and Queen. This variety is partly under cultivation in Kerala and Goa.
5. JALDHUP AND LAKHAT
Jaldhup and Lakhat are 2 indigenous types of pineapples grown in Assam. Both these varieties have been named after the place of their production. Both are under Queen group with fruits that are smaller than the Queen. Lakhat is generally sour in taste, while Jaldhup is sweet well- blended with acidity.
